Part A — Website terms of use
1. About me
I’m Jules, and I run The Secret Supper Society. The Secret Supper Society is a trading name of Grid24 Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company registration number 04280083), whose registered office is at Lynwood House, 373/375 Station Road, Harrow, HA1 2AW, United Kingdom. VAT number: 782723214.
In these terms, “I”, “me” and “my” mean Grid24 Limited t/a The Secret Supper Society. Grid24 Limited is the company you are entering into these terms with.
You can contact me at report@thesecretsuppersociety.com.
2. Using my site
These terms apply to your use of www.thesecretsuppersociety.com (my “site”). By using my site you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use my site.
If you become a member, the Membership Terms in Part B also apply to you.
3. Other policies that apply
These terms should be read together with:
- my Privacy Policy, which explains how I use your personal data; and
- my Reporting & Complaints page, which explains how to report content and how I deal with reports and complaints.
4. Ownership of my site
The intellectual property rights in my site and its content (including recipes, text, photographs, videos, logos and design) are owned by me or licensed to me. All such rights are reserved. Content posted by members is covered separately in Part B, clause 5.
5. What you may do with my content
You may view my content and print or download one copy of any page for your own personal, non-commercial use. My status (and that of any identified contributors) as the author of the content must always be acknowledged.
6. What you must not do with my content
You must not:
6.1 republish, sell or otherwise reuse my content for commercial purposes without a licence from me;
6.2 download or reuse any images, video or audio from my site separately from their original context;
6.3 modify any copies of my content you have printed or downloaded; or
6.4 use automated tools to copy, scrape or harvest content or member information from my site.
7. Linking to my site
You may link to my site’s home page, provided you do so fairly and legally and in a way that does not damage my reputation or take advantage of it. You must not link in a way that suggests any association with, approval of or endorsement by me where none exists. My site must not be framed on any other site. I may withdraw linking permission at any time.
8. Changes to and availability of my site
I update my site regularly and may change content at any time. I don’t guarantee that my site, or any content on it, will always be available or uninterrupted. I may suspend or withdraw all or part of my site for business or operational reasons.
9. Recipes and information on my site
My content is for general information and inspiration only. I take care to make my recipes accurate and “doable”, but I can’t guarantee they are complete or up to date, and they are not professional advice.
When following a recipe, it is your responsibility to check that all ingredients are suitable for you and anyone you are cooking for, particularly where anyone has an allergy, intolerance or medical condition. If you are unsure whether an ingredient is safe for you, please seek advice from your doctor before using it. Please take care with kitchen equipment, heat, sharp tools and food hygiene.
10. Third parties, recommendations and affiliate links
My site includes links to, and recommendations for, products and services provided by third parties, including artisan makers featured on the Maker’s Table. I have no control over those third parties, and any purchase you make is a contract between you and them. I am not responsible for their products, services or websites.
Some links on my site are affiliate links. If you buy something after clicking one, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. See “Referral Fees” in Part C for more details.
11. My liability to you
11.1 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by my negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales.
11.2 I only provide my site for domestic and private use. I have no liability to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.
11.3 I am not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable when you used my site, or for loss caused by a virus or other harmful material that may infect your device, provided I have taken reasonable care.
11.4 Content posted by members is not my content. My position on member content is set out in Part B, clause 7.
12. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law or to my services. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last updated. Where a change materially affects members, I will give notice as set out in Part B, clause 11.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in the courts of your own country.
Part B — Membership Terms
1. Who can join
1.1 You must be at least 18 years old to become a member.
1.2 You may only hold one membership account, and it is personal to you. You must not share it or transfer it to anyone else.
1.3 The information you give me when you sign up must be accurate, and you must keep it up to date.
1.4 I may decline any membership application.
2. Your account
2.1 You must keep your login details confidential and not share them with anyone.
2.2 If you think someone else knows your password, or has accessed your account, please change your password and tell me at report@thesecretsuppersociety.com straight away.
2.3 You are responsible for everything that is posted or done through your account.
3. Your membership
3.1 Membership of The Secret Supper Society is currently free (Society Member). It gives you access to members’ content and to the Society’s community areas, including your profile, posts, comments, photos, groups, friends and chat.
3.2 I regularly review and update what membership includes and may add, change or remove features and content.
3.3 I may introduce paid membership levels in future. These will have their own terms, and you will never be charged unless you have chosen a paid membership and agreed to those terms.
4. Ending your membership
4.1 You can close your account at any time from your account settings or by emailing report@thesecretsuppersociety.com.
4.2 I may suspend or close your account, with or without warning, if I reasonably believe you have broken these terms or the Community Rules, or if I need to do so to protect other members or comply with the law. Suspensions and removals are explained on my Reporting & Complaints page, including how to appeal.
4.3 When your account is closed, your access to members’ areas ends. What happens to your data and content is explained in my Privacy Policy.
5. Content you post
5.1 “Member content” means anything you post, upload or send on my site, including posts, comments, recipes, photos, videos, reactions, profile information and messages.
5.2 You keep ownership of your member content.
5.3 By posting member content, you give me a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, display, format (for example, resize or crop) and share it on my site and within the Society’s community, for as long as it remains on my site. This licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, except where others have already shared it within the community, or where I need to keep a copy for legal or safety reasons.
5.4 I will not use your member content outside the community (for example, on my social media, in newsletters, advertising or publications) without asking your permission first.
5.5 By posting member content, you confirm that you own it or have permission to share it, that anyone identifiable in your photos is happy for them to be shared, and that it follows the Community Rules.
6. Community Rules
I want the Society to feel like a good dinner party: warm, generous and welcoming to everyone at the table. When you use the community, you must not post, share or send anything that:
6.1 is abusive, threatening, harassing, bullying, hateful, discriminatory or intended to intimidate or upset another person;
6.2 is sexually explicit, obscene, graphically violent or otherwise offensive;
6.3 is unlawful, or encourages or helps anyone to break the law;
6.4 infringes anyone else’s rights, including copyright (for example, copying recipes, text or photos from cookbooks, websites or other people without permission or credit), privacy or confidentiality;
6.5 shares someone else’s personal information, or private messages, without their permission;
6.6 includes photos of children unless you are their parent or guardian or have their parent’s or guardian’s permission. Please never include details that could identify where a child lives or goes to school;
6.7 impersonates anyone, or misleads others about who you are;
6.8 is spam, advertising, selling or self-promotion, including affiliate links, unless I have agreed to it in advance;
6.9 presents health, allergy or medical claims as professional advice; or
6.10 contains viruses or other harmful code, or attempts to interfere with my site or other members’ accounts.
Please also be respectful in private chats. If someone asks you to stop contacting them, stop. You can block, unfriend or report any member at any time.
7. Member content: my responsibility
Member content — including posts, comments, photos, recipes and messages — belongs to the member who posted it and reflects their views, not mine. I don’t check member content before it is published and I can’t guarantee that it is accurate, safe, lawful or suitable.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not responsible or liable for member content or for anything you do in reliance on it.
I do not tolerate offensive, harmful or unlawful content. If you see something that shouldn’t be here, please report it. I will review reported content and remove anything that breaks the Community Rules or the law as quickly as I can once I am made aware of it.
8. Moderation
8.1 I may review, hide, edit (for example, to remove personal information), or remove any member content, and restrict, suspend or close any account, if I reasonably believe it breaks these terms or the law, or puts anyone at risk.
8.2 Where I reasonably believe content is illegal or someone may be at risk of harm, I may report it and share relevant information with the police or other authorities.
8.3 How reports and complaints are handled, and how to appeal a decision, is set out on my Reporting & Complaints page.
9. My content
Everything I publish for members (including recipes, videos, guides and member-only content) is covered by Part A, clauses 4 to 6. If you copy, share or reuse my content in breach of those clauses, I may close your account.
10. My liability to members
10.1 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by my negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited by law.
10.2 If I fail to comply with these terms, I am responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that failure or of my failure to use reasonable care and skill. I am not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
10.3 Membership is for your personal use. I have no liability to you for any business losses.
11. Changes to these Membership Terms
I may change these terms from time to time. If a change materially affects you, I will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email or on my site. If you don’t agree to the change, you can close your account before it takes effect.
12. Governing law
These Membership Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and Part A, clause 13 applies.
Part C — Referral Fees
I may earn referral fees when you buy goods from companies I recommend, at no extra cost to you. I only recommend products I have tried or used and genuinely recommend, all opinions are my own, and I do not accept payment for positive reviews.
This is called affiliate marketing. When you click an affiliate link, the retailer or affiliate network may place a cookie on your device so they can see that you came from me. If you make a purchase, the retailer pays me a fee. I don’t receive your name, address or payment details from the retailer; I only see that a purchase was made.
