I want everyone to feel welcome at my table. If something isn’t right, please tell me. Here’s how, and what happens next.
How to report
The quickest way is to use the Report option on the post, comment, photo, profile or message itself. You’ll be asked to choose a reason and can add a short note.
You can also email report@thesecretsuppersociety.com with:
- a link to, or screenshot of, the content or profile;
- what the problem is; and
- anything else that will help me understand what happened.
Your report is confidential. I won’t tell the member you reported who made the report.
If it’s urgent
If someone is in immediate danger, please call 999 first, then let me know.
What happens next
- I’ll acknowledge your report. If you emailed me, I’ll reply within 2 working days.
- I act quickly on serious reports. Anything that may be illegal, threatening, sexual, involves a child, or suggests someone is at risk will be looked at as a priority. I may hide the content straight away while I review it. Content that is reported by several members may also be hidden automatically until I’ve looked at it.
- I’ll review it. I’ll check the content against my Terms & Conditions and the Community Rules, usually within 5 working days. Where appropriate, I may contact the member involved to hear their side.
- I’ll decide what to do. Depending on what I find, I may:
- take no action, if nothing breaks the rules;
- ask the member to edit or remove the content;
- remove the content myself;
- give the member a warning;
- temporarily suspend the member’s account; or
- permanently close the member’s account.
Where I reasonably believe the law has been broken or someone may be at risk, I may report it to the police or other authorities.
- I’ll let you know. I’ll tell you when I’ve dealt with your report. To protect everyone’s privacy, I may not be able to share the details of any action taken against another member.
Disagreements between members
Not every disagreement breaks the rules. I’m not able to referee differences of opinion, but you can always block, unfriend or leave a group to step away. I’ll step in wherever the Community Rules have been broken.
If your content has been reported or removed
If I remove your content or restrict your account, I’ll tell you what I’ve done and why, unless doing so would put someone at risk or break the law.
How to appeal
If you think I got it wrong, email report@thesecretsuppersociety.com within 14 days of my decision, with “Appeal” in the subject line and explain why. I’ll look at the decision again, taking into account anything new you tell me, and let you know the outcome within 10 working days. My decision after an appeal is final.
Complaints about me
If you’re unhappy with something I’ve done, or the way I’ve handled a report, please email report@thesecretsuppersociety.com with “Complaint” in the subject line.
- I’ll acknowledge your complaint within 2 working days.
- I’ll look into it and aim to give you a full response within 14 days. If it will take longer, I’ll let you know why and when to expect an answer.
- If you’re still not satisfied, reply to my response and I will review it personally.
If I still can’t put things right, you can get free, independent advice from Citizens Advice (citizensadvice.org.uk). If your complaint is about how I’ve used your personal data, you can also contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Records
I keep records of reports, decisions, appeals and complaints for 12 months (or longer if I need them for legal reasons), so I can handle them properly and spot repeated problems. See my Privacy Policy for more details.
