For decorative delights
Based in Henley, Fox and Peel specialises in display antiques: old apothecary cupboards, antique art, vintage kitchenware — so, basically, everything for sale here is beautiful. Run by former interior designer Lisa McLaughlin, it’s where to pick up the sort of stage-setting trinkets and treasures you’d so admire in a professionally-styled home. A vintage ceramic marmalade pot, a 19th century travel trunk, an old chemist’s till… basically, we want everything.
For stately statues
Done right, you can’t beat the casual opulence of a garden statue. A Venus de’ Medici peeping out through ivy, or bright geums growing in an old stone urn — oh, that old thing? With a collection of rare garden and decorative statues from the 17th to the 20th century, La Place Antiques is la place to hotfoot it if you want in on this stoneware action. Oh, and there’s gorgeous French furniture, too, but that’s practically gilding the lily.
For curated clutter
If nosing about through piles of gorgeous old homewares and art for something unique is your thing, look no further than Henley-based The Vintage Look, where the stuff you’re looking through has already been expertly curated. The shop’s been savvy at sourcing its antiques from the best local traders since 2008 so expect some serious goodies. It’s a proper treasure trove full of glinting copper saucepans, charming old prints and vases with stories to tell…
For hand-picked must-haves
Normally selling entirely out of Nikki’s family home, everything on offer from Nikki Page Antiques has already passed her obsessive attention to quality and detail. The shop specialises in decorative pieces from the 19th and 20th centuries, and a lot of it is sourced from old French chateaus — are we hearing Escape to the Chateau chic? Every item is rare and unique, from floral wall sconces to antique woven prams.
For fabulous furniture
Gorgeous vintage sofas abound at The Antique French Chair and Sofa Company. Featuring all kinds of knockout patterns, the shop specialises in restored 19th century French furniture: Napoleon chairs, sofas, day beds, ottomans, and more. If you’re looking for a styled vintage touch to your living room or bedroom, you’ll be in seventh heaven. Personally, I’m obsessed with the idea of a little loveseat in the corner of my bathroom, so keep an eye out for me, will you?
For mid-century marvels
We don’t need to tell you that mid-century vintage is still ever so in right now. And we certainly don’t need to tell Old Whites Vintage Interiors, as the store is an undisputed expert on the subject — sleek 1960s chairs, rare designer lights, 1950s oak sideboards. Items here get snapped-up fast, so no messing about!
