With so many new eateries popping up in the local area this month, we thought we’d treat you to a foodie special. Dig in…
Marlow new eats alert!
Roasted Cod, Crispy Potato, Baby Gem and Shrimp Salad
New kid on the Spittal Street block, The Oarsman is a contemporary bistro and pub in Marlow. We can’t decide what we’re most excited about with this place – is it the 300+ wine list (with a weekly changing ‘by the glass’ menu and a 500ml carafe for 2/3rds the full list price) or is it the quirky seasonal dishes – Fillet of Stone Bass, Endive Marmalade and XO Sauce anyone? or is it the small plates and cheese/charcuterie (Burrata, Olive Oil and Fresh Honeycomb …genius!)?
New happenings at The Randolph
You had me at pink banquettes, slick cocktails and crystal chandeliers… but Alice is not just a pretty face. The new dining offering at Oxford’s most famous hotel (named after she of Wonderland) has a bar, private dining rooms and snug – so a space for every occasion, plus a seasonal, locally sourced menu of British dishes ‘with a contemporary twist’.
Oxford’s latest squeeze
The Danish juice/smoothie/salad/wrap phenomenon that is Joe & The Juice has chosen Oxford for its latest venture. Shoppers rejoice – somewhere to get your acai bowl/hangover juice/purple cortado (don’t worry – it’s just the size of the cup) between stores, or even a change of scene for WFHers. Opens Oct 15.
Crockers is all fired up
Crockers Henley will unveil its new á la carte restaurant, Ember, this week (Oct 15) under the leadership of former National Chef of Wales, Tom Westerland. The grill and flame menu is all cooked over coals and comes by the dish or, as you’d expect from Crockers, there’s the full bells-and-whistles tasting menu option. With dishes like duck parfait, barbecued pineapple, rummy raisins, hazelnut and brioche, they’ve got autumn date night nailed.
Witney has a new pub – The Part & Parcel. It’s the latest opening from the Dodo Pub Co (and with the likes of Oxford’s The Rickety Press and Cheltenham’s The Bottle of Sauce in the portfolio, we reckon this is going to be a good one). Expect a community vibe, loads of events, table football, killer comfort food menu and caffeine and cake daytime offering.
News to nibble on…
Jacobs & Field, an absolute fave Muddy lunch spot (and brunch… and dinner….) in Oxford’s Headington has finally reopened after a kitchen overhaul and refurb for dine-in.
Peterley Farm’s gorgeous Wild Strawberry Cafe cafe is closing 17 Oct while the final preparations are made on the new venture, Barn Kitchen. Opening date TBC…
Scandi bakery Ole & Steen reopens its Oxford Westgate branch this week after an extended lockdown closure. Expect an autumn menu of soup, open sarnies and choux buns alongside the usual breads and baked goodies.
