The Kitchen Food Company opens
Foodies, get thee to Summertown ASAP! Kitchen Food Company, formerly the Michelin-starred 215 Kitchen & Drinks and The Oxford Kitchen before that, reopens this month as a swish new Bistro and Deli combo. The upstairs Bistro opens today, Thursday 10 March, and will offer brunch 5 days a week, Wednesday to Sunday, from 10am until 2pm. Don’t worry if you like your brunch fix to kick off the week – they’ll be running a 7-day week from early April. The Bistro is walk-in only, with no reservations, so it’ll be pointy elbows at the ready for the launch! Luckily, Muddy were the first through the door for a pre-launch review – read it here.
Meanwhile, the chic downstairs Deli is opening later this month on Monday 28 March, also Wednesday to Sunday, and will stock ingredients used to create the delicious dishes used in the Bistro, from sauces and chutneys to gin and fruit coulis. Michelin-star chef Paul Welburn has helped develop the recipes himself, and you can have them added to the bill if you try something you love in the Bistro – genius.
Food, glorious food
Got a carb craving? Indie pizza co Sartorelli’s has just opened in Oxford’s Covered Market, serving up wood-fired pizzas from their glorious mosaic oven six days a week, 11am to 5.30pm from Tuesday to Sunday. There’s only room for 20 people seated, so get in quick if you want to eat in.
Carnivores should hotfoot it to brand new opening Django’s Smokehouse in Didcot, with its chic marble bar and menu groaning with US-inspired BBQ and sides. Don’t panic, veggies, all is not lost – there are plant-based smash patties, cauliflower wings and jackfruit BBQ plates too.
There’s a brand new street food event in our ‘hood – AY StrEat Meet (that’s the name, I promise my caps lock isn’t on the blink) is based in Aylesbury and the surrounding area, and their inaugural event this weekend was a roaring success, with a pop-up bar, live music and six street food vendors to choose from. The next event is scheduled for 2 April, so pop it in your calendars pronto.
Coming soon…
Wild Raven Farm Shop and Tea Room near Aylesbury is expanding! This weekend they’ll be opening their new Barn Stores, which will be home to indie producers like Bucks-based Creative Collective, wine and cheese sellers No. 2 Pound Street, plant bods The Little Greenhouse Tring and more. Pop along on the 12 and 13 March for opening weekend offers.
The Plough in Stony Stratford is getting a facelift – and a new name! The pub is being reborn as The Old School House, and will reopen in April with a swanky new look, a tapas-inspired menu and plenty of cocktails to boot. Watch this space.
We’re all about indies here at Muddy, but there are some exciting chains popping up here and there. The new Merlotti Lounge in High Wycombe has announced its opening date of 30 March – expect quirky interiors and crowd-pleasing menus like its sister Metro Lounge (pictured) in Amersham.
There are also rumours that Cosy Club will be opening in the site of the old Jamie’s Italian in the centre of Milton Keynes, and that Popeyes (yes, the cult fried chicken chain in America) is eyeing up a spot in Oxford – only its second location in the whole of the UK. Seeing as the London opening had queues down the street, we’re expecting it to be weirdly popular…
Stars in their eyes
Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne have clearly been reading Muddy’s Best Places to Live – they’re upping sticks from their LA home and are moving back to their Grade II listed house in Jordans, Chalfont St Giles. Seeing as the whole family were recently spotted visiting Cliveden (including Jack Osbourne and his brand new fiancee Aree Gearheart, pictured), we wonder if there’ll be wedding bells on British shores?
Joaquin Phoenix has already been galavanting around the streets of Oxford in aid of Ridley Scott’s new film about Napoleon, Kitbag, but the Bucks crowd needn’t feel left out – filming is moving to Stowe Avenue next month, and will shut down the road from 4 to 7 April. Anyone up for hanging around in the carpark trying to catch a glimpse? Just me then? Okay.
