If you’ve not yet visited Stonor Park in Henley and its fantastic on-site playground Tumblestone Hollow (er, why not?), then we can’t think of a much better time than Easter. The weather’s warm enough to get outside (and wear those little legs out) but not so hot you’ll be running to find shade – plus, throw a new Easter trail, wood-fired pizzas and ice cream into the mix and we’re sold.

If you read our review of  Stonor Park’s Halloween trail, you’ll know what to expect here – a cute rhyming trail around the pretty walled gardens of Stonor, with bunnies and glittering eggs galore. The 850-year-old historic house itself is currently under maintenance (due to open on Easter Sunday, Easter Monday and 24th April) but visitors can expect to see its Gothic Hall, 12th century chapel and dramatic long gallery and there’s enough rolling green hills, blossom and colourful decorations to keep your Insta feed happy. Once your littles have solved the  puzzles, they’ll win a prize of the chocolate variety (can confirm: delicious).

However, the real pull for Stonor is the incredible Tumblestone Hollow, the wooden adventure playground. Not only does the whole thing look like it was constructed by fairies – a notion helped by the adorable woodland storytellers kitted out in fairy garb in the nearby Story Tent – but it’s big enough to keep kids happy for hours. There’s a zip line, slides (some of which are quite sizeable!) and bridges, as well as a smaller playground for the younger brood. Recommended ages here are 4 to 12.

Also in Tumblestone Hollow you’ll find the Rumble Hut, a shepherd’s hut whipping up incredible-smelling wood-fired pizzas – flavours include prosciutto and mushroom, roast veg and goats cheese and Nutella – a second shepherd’s hut will be installed later in Spring which will serve Italian soft whip ice-cream, and there’s even a covered dining area for you to sit and scoff it all. If you don’t want to brave the pizza queue (the Rumble Hut is unsurprisingly very popular at peak times), you can bring your own snacks to enjoy just outside of the playground, in the picnic area. Sounds like the perfect Easter day out to us!

The Easter trail runs from 9 to 24 April and is open from 9.30am to 5pm with staggered time slots for entry. Ticket prices start from £9, which includes access to the Easter Trail, the gardens and Tumblestone Hollow.
