Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, 17 Sept

With acoustics like this, it’s criminal to miss any opportunity to listen to classical music at the Town Hall – especially when it comes courtesy of the Oxford Phil. This two-hour recital includes pieces by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Sarasate, and we’re particularly looking forward to Maxim Vengerov’s rendition of Shostakovich (get the inside line before he performs at the Royal Albert Hall a few days later).

Worth the Weight Vintage Fair, 25 Sept

Do you adore scouring vintage shops for hidden gems? Let the fashion come to you, baby! The UK’s biggest vintage kilo sale hits Oxford Town Hall at the end of September – perfect timing for refreshing your A/W wardrobe. Grab a bag on your way in, pack it with your favourite vintage pieces from the constantly-refreshed rails and pay no more than £20 a kilo for it. A total bargain and sustainable, too.

‘An Emotional Dictionary’ by Susie Dent, with Jo Brand, 13 Oct

The Queen of Dictionary Corner and the Queen of Comedy join forces to promote Susie’s brand new book, An Emotional Dictionary. It’s filled with truly excellent words everyone needs in their vocabulary, from ‘age-otori’ (the feeling you get after a disastrous haircut – been there) to ‘lalochezia’ (the satisfaction that can only be brought about by swearing – also been there). Pre-buy the book along with your tickets and you can pick it up at the event and have it signed, too.

Oxford Beer and Cider Festival, 20-21 Oct

No lederhosen required at this local Oktoberfest (more’s the pity). Simply turn up ready to sample 120 beers and 30 ciders and perries from an array of fantastic local breweries and plot your route back based on toilet stops.

Organ Recital, 26 Oct

Finally, round off the month with a classic organ recital in the Main Hall. David Bendix Nielsen will be performing a set on the Hall’s incredible Father Willis Organ (seriously, if you haven’t heard it played, hotfoot it down ASAP) at midday, so combine it with lunch at the Town Hall Cafe for easy eats.
